from the SF Bay Guardian:
“Named for an urban-warfare training camp established by radical Christian group the Covenant, the Sword, and the Arm of the Lord in the 1980s, Michael W. Wilson’s doc traces a historical thru-line from that group to apocalypse-anticipating 21st century Evangelicals. They’ve come a long way from simply isolating themselves in the backwoods with weapons stockpiles; these days, they’re in positions of political power, or are best-selling authors, or oversee enormous congregations. In some cases, they’re all three at once. The first act of Silhouette City is full of vintage footage of the Covenant, the Sword, and the Arm of the Lord’s culty goings-on, which are so fascinating that Wilson probably could’ve made an entire documentary on just that subject, especially with former church member Kerry Noble as a featured talking head.”
“The Call” is on AlterNet’s Top 10 Videos of 2008
The most popular AlterNet videos of the year are an eclectic bunch. They feature comedians taking on Fox News while on Fox News, as well as comparing George W. Bush’s presidency to “Battlefield Earth.” There is the incredible documentary footage of police brutality in St. Paul, Minn., as well as other pieces that focused on the lighter side of Election ‘08. There’s footage of Karle Rove almost getting arrested, and an anchorman with the courage to call Bush what he really is. Whether serious or satirical, these are the 10 videos that sparked the most interest on AlterNet this year.

Spoken WORD :: Horton Hears the Holy Spirit
Conservative Christian evangelist Lou Engle reveals the prophetic Word of God contained in the children’s book “Horton Hears a Who” by Dr. Suess.
Lou Engle is the founder of “The Call” – a traveling revival that routinely draws tens of thousands to hear sermons by right-wing religious leaders, music by right-wing Christian musicians and to engage in corporate prayer and fasting.
The emphasis of these events is on mobilization: (from the website) “TheCall is a FAST not a festival. TheCall is a SOLEMN ASSEMBLY not a conference.”
